MAP-Controlled Thermostat

MAP-controlled (mapped) thermostats are advanced thermal regulation components managed by the engine control unit (ECU). Unlike conventional thermostats, their opening temperatures can be dynamically adjusted by the ECU through an integrated electric heater. They operate according to predefined temperature maps based on engine operating conditions, thereby ensuring optimal temperature control.

Utilizing this technology, the thermostat enables the engine to operate at elevated coolant temperatures under low-load operating conditions, thereby enhancing fuel efficiency and reducing emissions. Under high-load or high-speed conditions, the thermostat regulates the system toward lower operating temperatures to ensure optimal engine performance, component protection, and long-term durability. This controlled thermal management function is a key enabler for compliance with current and future emission regulations.
